Sunshine Coast to get a drive-in movie theatre

A drive-in movie theatre is coming to the Sunshine Coast.

The fun begins on Friday 5 June at the Eumundi Showgrounds, with a showing of 80s family cult classic The Goonies.

Outdoor movie company Starry Nights has teamed up with Eumundi’s Imperial Hotel to deliver the screenings.

Entry is $25 per car (plus a booking fee) and tickets are limited.

The drive-in is proving popular with The Goonies and the second scheduled screening, Pulp Fiction, already sold out.

Tickets are still available for the double cult classics night on Friday 19 June. The classics being screened on that night are Dirty Dancing and Strictly Ballroom.

Gates open at 5pm with the first movie, Dirty Dancing, screening at 6pm.  Movie-goers will have to observe a number of COVID-19 restrictions.

Entry is ‘contactless’, with patrons required to produce a previously issued ticket for barcode scanning.

You’ll also have to pack your own snacks as there’s no food for sale at the drive-in. However you can pre-order food from The Imperial Hotel.

There’s also no bins on site (so you have to take your rubbish home).

And the only real reason you can leave the car is to go to the bathroom, which will be monitored and regularly santised.
