This year’s National Simultaneous Storytime will be a virtual event with around one million kids involved.
For those unfamiliar with the event, National Simultaneous Storytime involves a book being read out loud at the same time in libraries, schools, preschools, homes, childcare centres, bookshops and children’s hospitals across Australia and New Zealand.
However amid the coranavirus pandemic, this year’s event on Wednesday 27 May at 11am will head in to the virtual realm.
The aim is to reach more than one million kids reading the same book at the same time, regardless of whether they are in the classroom or at home.
The picture book is Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas by Lucinda Gifford, published by Scholastic Australia.
Families and educators keen to participate in reaching #1millionkidsreading can register at alia.org.au/nss for FREE.
They can access downloadable craft activities that can be enjoyed in the classroom or at home. The book is also available to purchase online.
To help celebrate the event, Scholastic Australia will be gifting children in major children’s hospitals a free copy of the book.
